Exciting updates are happening at EHY!

Hello EHY Fam!!!!

We are in full swing prepping for the new year and all your New Year's Resolutions. We will be hosting our annual 30-day Challenge from January 2nd-31st and, YES this means the cards and star stickers will be back!!!

Our new floor is finally installed and it looks BEAUTIFUL! Such an improvement from our old floor. This one is slip resistant, completely waterproof, more cushion for our yogi toes and fingers, and helps keep our room insulated from all the frost and snow. If you haven't already, come practice on it and tell us what you think.

The New Year always brings a rush of new people and busier classes. As excited as we are about expanding our EHY family, we also want to continue to support our current members. We will be adding a 2:30pm 75-min Power Vinyasa on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our hope is, by having an earlier class, it will relieve some of the stress from the busier evening classes. However, the 7:30pm Tues/Thurs class will not be returning to our schedule. We decided on this for a couple of reasons... biggest one, attendance was low for that time slot, and we've had quite a few requests for a early afternoon class. If you're excited about this addition please come as much as you can! We always base keeping a class permanently if the attendance is good. If you are heartbroken about losing the 7:30pm, let us know! As we continue to grow there may be enough interest to bring it back.

There are a few more studio updates coming for 2017. More cubbies/storage have been added to both the Men's and Women's locker rooms. Fuzzy bath mats are outside the showers now to help keep your toes warm. We will have much sturdier hooks installed SOON! Our front reception desk is in the process of being built, shoe shelves designed, and more benches are coming! We're creating a little seating area for you to rest and chit-chat. Fresh paint and new signs will be propping up, keep your eye out for them and give us your feedback. Everything we do is for you guys and it helps us so much to know what we are doing right and where we can improve.

This studio has been a dream come true for me and everyone else on staff! I want to thank each one of you for continuing to support us and make Elements such an awesome community to be a part of!

Happy Holidays!

Much love, Sara

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR PRACTICE: I was training for the 2015 Bellingham Bay Marathon, to honor my 5th cancerversary. My right hip was cranky.  My training partner practiced yoga a few times a week and suggested I try it.  My gym offered gentle yoga class that Julie Finley was subbing. With yoga, my hip calmed down and I completed two marathons the Fall of 2015. Julie told me about Elements and a 40 Days to Personal Revolution class that was starting January 2016.  I signed up, fully committed and met some amazing people.

ARE YOU CURRENTLY FACING ANY CHALLENGES WITHIN YOUR PRACTICE: I wish I could do and learn more. So I suppose my struggle is that I need to find peace with where I am.

FAVORITE POSE: Camel. Half moon.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR YOGA PRACTICE: I love that it helps me pursue a healthier body, mind and spirit.  It has become so much more than a fitness class for me.  (The yoga books I own and the yoga podcasts I subscribe to!)

FAVORITE QUOTE: So many favorite quotes! Here are a few I have saved recently.

"Just because you are right does not mean I am wrong. You just haven't seen life from my side." (As two people stand looking at a number 6/9 on the sidewalk.)

"Happiness starts with you. Not your relationships, not your job, not with money, but with you."

"The fears we don't face become our limits"

What do you love most about your practice?

I absolutely love seeing what my body is capable of doing. Each practice I am surprised at how strong I am and how much more flexible I am compared to last week, month, and even last year. These progressions keep me coming back, I am striving to be the best version of myself. I am also loving the mind-body connection, I am learning to love myself in a way I never have before. Quieting my critical mind and focusing on what my body needs in the present moment is a big part of why I started coming, and I love it.

Are you currently facing any challenges in your practice?

Some days are dark, and those days are the hardest to remind myself that I am capable, that I am strong, and that I am enough. Sometimes I look for instant gratification and it's difficult to remember that change happens over time. Usually a good savasana after class helps me remember why I'm here.

Favorite Pose?

Headstands! They have shown me that I am much stronger than I thought I was. I seriously get so giddy after getting upside down, it's the best feeling in the world. I also love any of the balancing poses because I can see most progress in them during a short period of time. In March, I learned half moon pose and couldn't do it without a wall and it was still incredibly unstable. Now I can do it with just the use of a block and each time feels sturdier than the last.

What fuels you?

My progress; physically, mentally, and emotionally! I am always so impressed with myself and that feeling is what keeps me coming back. My yoga practice is seeping out beyond the physical practice and I'm feeling more balanced and flexible in other aspects in life. I'm nicer to myself and to others, and that feeling is totally priceless

Favorite Quote?

"It was when I stopped searching for the home within others

and lifted the foundations of home within myself

I found there were no roots more intimate

than those between a mind and body

that have decided to be whole"

November Updates!

Fall in love with taking care of yourself

The most beautiful time of year is upon us! There's no better time than now to start practicing. Whether you're totally new, or just reigniting, we have a practice to fit your needs. It was a wonderful summer in Bellingham, but we are ready to bring on the fall! This upcoming season will be packed with all your favorite classes, new workshops and some studio upgrades.

Yin is coming to Monday Nights!

Starting this November we will be adding a Yin class to the schedule on Monday nights, from 7:30pm-8:30pm. This class has become so popular that we couldn't resist bringing it to another weeknight. You now have 3 chances, each week to slow down and dive deep through this profound practice. Designed to calm the mind, while creating space and stability in the body. It is known to decrease stress and boost your immunity.  By adding Yin to your yoga practice, you will discover true balance of the mind and body. We hope to see you there!
